Petaling Jaya BC Return to Winning Ways

KUALA LUMPUR (22 December 2017): After their humiliating defeat yesterday, Petaling Jaya Badminton Club (BC) got back to winning ways after defeating Ampang Jaya BC 13-10 at the Sports Arena Sentosa, Old Klang Road today.

A tight first match went in favour of Petaling Jaya BC as Goh Giap Chin made sure they gained the early advantage. Goh defeated Ampang Jaya BC’s Tan Jia Wei 3-2 (11-8, 4-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9) in the first men’s singles match.

Petaling Jaya BC’s Supanida Katethong piled even more pressure on Ampang Jaya BC as she won her match with a similar scoreline. The Thai international beat Xu Wei 3-2 (11-7, 11-2, 8-11, 9-11, 11-7).

Another 3-2 win goes the way of Petaling Jaya BC this time in the men’s doubles match. Their pair of Chooi Kah Ming and Low Juan Shen beat Ampang Jaya BC’s Lukhi Nugroho and Muhd Syawal (5-11, 11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 10-5).

Ampang Jaya BC finally won their first match of the game in the mixed doubles category and in impressive fashion as well. The partnership of Indonesian internationals, Markis Kido and Ririn Amelia boded superbly as they gunned down Petaling Jaya BC’s K. Yogendran and Ti Wei Chyi, winning 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 11-10).

In the end, it was Lee Cheuk Yiu who secured the win for Petaling Jaya BC. He performed tremendously under pressure to defeat Ampang Jaya BC’s Zulfadli Zulkiffli 3-1 (9-11, 11-10, 11-5, 11-7) in the last match of the night.

“In truth, our team this year is stronger in all department compared to last season’s. Yesterday wasn’t our day. Our players did not perform up to expectations. But today you see a different side of our players. However, I am more worried about my team’s total points tally as that will determine whether we qualify for Resorts World Genting ,” said Petaling Jaya BC’s assistant team manager, Yeoh Kay Lun.

Earlier in the day, Kepong BC were push to the limit but still managed to overcome Serdang BC 10-8 during their SSPL2017/18 Phase 1 match at the Sports Arena Sentosa, Old Klang Road.  

Lim Chi Wing came good on his first SSPL 2017/18 appearance as he gifted Kepong BC an early 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 11-4) win over Serdang BC’s Yu Chen in the first men’s singles match.

It was another straight sets win for Kepong BC in the women’s singles match with Ho Yen Mei – who is on a hot streak having won all her matches thus far – defeating her national teammate, Serdang BC’s Lee Ying Ying 3-0 (11-10, 11-9, 11-7).

Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Yang Po Han then secured the victory for Kepong BC as they came from 2 sets down to win the match 3-2 (8-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-10, 7-6) in the men’s doubles match against Serdang BC’s Pei Tian Yi and Tan Jinn Hwa.

Serdang BC recorded a straight sets win of their own as their Chinese Taipei mixed doubles pair of Chen Hsiao Huan and Lu Ching Yao put in a comprehensive display to beat Kepong BC’s Ng Wing Yung and Goh Soon Huat 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-6).

Leong Jun Hao continued his impressive early season form as the Serdang BC player beat Kepong BC’s Thongnuam Pannawit 3-1 (11-9, 11-7, 10-11, 11-9) in the last match to ensure his team finish the game on a positive note.

"I hope that my players will continue to improve their game as we will be facing even tougher opponents in the coming matches. Today we were lucky as we managed to win the men's doubles match to secure the victory despite losing our last two matches," said Kepong BC's Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif.

 

"For the next few games, I might need to make some adjustments to the lineup especially our mixed doubles pairing because we aim to qualify for the Grand Finals as one of the best six teams," added Zakry.
