Roaring start for Bandar Maharani BC

PUCHONG (16 September, 2017): Day 1 of the Junior Purple League 2017 (JPL2017) first leg saw newly promoted side Bandar Maharani Badminton Club (BC) impress on their Division 1 bow by beating Serdang BC 14-3 at Sports Arena Puchong today.

Last season’s Division 2 champions took control of the tie from the get go through Lim Chong King’s 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-6) victory over Chang Chia Hao in the boy’s singles match.

Bandar Maharani then went 6-0 up thanks to another straight sets win, this time through their Chinese Taipei boy’s pair, Luo Jin Wen/Wang Yu Qiao who beat Serdang’s Lee Xin Je/Lim Mei Chen 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.

Last season’s 8th place finishers, Serdang BC finally got the upper hand over their opponents in the mixed doubles match when the pair of Ching Kai Feng/Teoh Lexuan recorded a narrow 3-2 (11-5, 11-7, 3-11,10-11, 11-6) win over Go Pei Kee/Lee Yi Bo.

Bandar Maharani BC did not let the loss damper their spirits as they further enhanced their lead through Yu Chieh’s 3-0 (11-8, 11-4, 11-8) win over Serdang BC’s girl singles player, Yang Yu Chi.

Muhd Fazriq who is the son of national badminton legend, Datuk Razif Sidek then paired with Ng Jia Jun to put the icing on the cake for the Johor based club when they played out an entertaining 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-6) victory over Serdang’s pair of Chea Cheng Xiang/Teh Zi Yi to secure a resounding season opening win for the JPL Division 1 debutants.

Bandar Maharani BC’s manager, Yap Kim Heng admitted that he was actually surprised with the big win today and praised his players for performing beyond expectation.

He said, “Although I was a little shocked by the final score, I am very pleased with this first win and credit have to go out to all my players for showing they are capable of competing in this division”.

“We will try to improve our weaknesses for the upcoming matches as it is still early in the season and hope to challenge the more established teams in the league. Our target is to finish in the top 5 and remain in this division”, added Kim Heng.

Meanwhile in Division 2, Subang BC raced to an early lead on the standings  with two wins on the trot today. They got their first win by convincingly despatching Bangsar Hawks BC 15-2 in the morning and continued their winning form by edging Bukit Cheras BC 9-8 later in the evening.
