Bukit Cheras BC aim to keep winning momentum

KUALA LUMPUR (25 October 2018): Newly promoted Bukit Cheras Badminton Club (BC) are out to prove they have what it takes to be among the PLJ elite and not just to make up the numbers in the Premier Division of the Purple League Junior 2018.

The Division Two champions began their Division One campaign with solid displays on the opening weekend and are sitting pretty in top spot after three matches.

Bukit Cheras BC opened accounts with a 15-4 win over Petaling Jaya, but then suffered a narrow 9-10 defeat to Bandar Maharani BC before upsetting two time champions, Petaling BC 13-3 at the conclusion of round one.

With the PLJ set to resume this weekend after a one week break, Bukit Cheras BC are determined to keep their winning momentum going into the second leg.

Their coach Ong Khei Woon said: "I must admit that there is a big difference playing in Division Two and now in Division One. To come up against teams in Division One, we need to better prepare our teams. Moreover, we are the newcomers while the other teams are used to playing in the top division.

“Looking at the line-up this season, we have been making some changes. We now have a well balanced team of old and new faces playing for Bukit Cheras BC this season.”

After a great start in the PLJ, Khei Woon does not want his team to be too buoyant and demands 100% focus from his players to maintain their winning ways in order to continue creating more upsets.

He added: "After going through three matches, I hope my players can stay focused and continue to give it their all. We won two matches and lost one. We have to keep our momentum and hope Bukit Cheras BC will continue to upset the form book.

“We will meet up with all the players and discuss the line-up. It is the norm in this club to sit down with the players to discuss all aspects e.g fitness, current form etc, before deciding on our best line -up,” added the coach.

At the conclusion of the opening weekend at Desa Petaling Sports Complex, Bukit Cheras BC top the PLJ with 37 points, followed by Ampang Jaya BC and Kepong BC in third.

The PLJ 2018 resumes at the Sports Arena Puchong for week two (27-28 October) and the finale at The Challenger Sports Centre Ampang (3-4 November).

Among the names showing up for Bukit Cheras BC are Toh Ee Wei, Chua Yue Chern, Joanne Ng May Yin, Muhammad Ariff Asaari and many other up-and-coming players.
